Dear Laura and John,
“As you know,” I often find myself talking to things that don’t answer, especially animals. Once I said “Hey, buddy!” to a sparrow I was walking past, and so on. Well, yesterday I was walking through a parking lot at Canterbury (which, “as you know,” is a school) when a crow cawed three times, very loudly. Without thinking, I called back “You got it, bird!” I didn’t say it. I shouted it right out.
What if some kids had heard me? What am I going to do?
